It was narrated from ‘Aishah that the Prophet (ﷺ) said, concerning how long a woman’s hem should hang down: “A hand span.” ‘Aishah said: “This may show her calves.” He said: “Then a forearm’s length.”

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ، حَدَّثَنَا حَبِيبٌ الْمُعَلِّمُ، عَنْ أَبِي الْمُهَزِّمِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ قَالَ فِي ذُيُولِ النِّسَاءِ ‏"‏ شِبْرًا ‏"‏ ‏.‏ فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ إِذًا تَخْرُجَ سُوقُهُنَّ ‏.‏ قَالَ ‏"‏ فَذِرَاعٌ ‏"‏ ‏.‏
