\n\n \nYahya related to me from Malik that Said ibn Abd ar-Rahman ibn\nRuqash said, "I saw Anas ibn Malik come and squat and urinate.Then\nwater was brought and he did wudu. He washed his face, then his arms\nto the elbows, and then he wiped his head and wiped over his leather\nsocks. Then he came to the mosque and prayed."\n\n\nYahya said\nthat Malik was asked whether a man who did wudu for prayerand then put\non his leather socks, and then urinated and took them off and put them\nback on again, should begin wudu afresh.\n\n\nMalik replied, "He\nshould take off his socks and wash his feet. Only someone who puts on\nleather socks when his feet are (already) ritually purified by wudu\ncan wipe over them. Someone who puts on leather socks when his feet\nare not ritually purified by wudu, should not wipe over them."\n\n\nYahya said that Malik was asked about a man who did wudu with his\nleather socks on and forgot to wipe over them until the water was dry\nand he had prayed, and he said, "He should wipe over his socks and\nrepeat the prayer but not repeat wudu."\n\n\nMalik was asked about\na man who washed his feet and put on his leather socks and then\nstarted doing wudu, and he said, "He should take off his socks and do\nwudu and wash his feet."\n\n \nYahya related to me from Malik from al-Ala ibn Abd ar-Rahman from\nhis father from Abu Hurayra that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah\nbless him and grant him peace, went to the burial grounds and said,\n"Peace be upon you, home of a people who believe! We shall be among\nyou, Allah willing. I wish that I had seen our brothers!" The people\nwith him said, "Messenger of Allah! Are we not your brothers?" "No,"\nhe said, "You are my companions. Our brothers are those who have not\nyet come. And I will precede them to the Hawd. (The Hawd:\n the watering\nplace of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, from\nwhich he will give to the people of his community on the day of\nrising.)" They asked him, "Messenger of Allah! How will you recognise\nthose of your community who come after you?"\n\n\nHe said,\n"Doesn't a man who has horses with white legs and white blazes on\ntheir foreheads among totally black horses recognise which ones are\nhis own?" They said, "Of course, Messenger of Allah." He went on,\n"Even so will they come on the day of rising with white marks on their\nforeheads, hands and feet from wudu, and I will precede them to the\nHawd. Some men will be driven away from the Hawd as if they were\nstraying camels and I shall call out to them, 'Will you not come? Will\nyou not come? Will you not come?' and someone will say, 'They changed\nthings after you,' so I shall say, 'Then away with them, away with\nthem, away with them!' "\n\n \n\n \nYahya related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab from Abbad ibn\nZiyad, a descendant of al-Mughira ibn Shuba from his father from al\nMughira ibn Shuba that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and\ngrant him peace, went to relieve himself during the expedition of\nTabuk. Mughira said, "I went with him, taking water. Then the\nMessenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, came back\nand I poured out the water for him. He washed his hands and then went\nto push his hands out of the sleeves of his garment, but could not do\nso because of their narrowness. So he brought them out from underneath\nhis garment. Then he washed his arms, wiped his head and wiped over\nhis leather socks. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and\ngrant him peace, returned and Abdar Rahman ibn Awf was leading the\npeople in prayer, and he had already finished one raka with them. The\nMessenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, prayed\nthe remaining raka with them to everyone's concern. When the Messenger\nof Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, finished he said,\n'You have acted correctly.' "\n\n \n\n \nYahya related to me from Malik from Ishaq ibn Abdullah ibn Abi\nTalha from Humayda bint Abi Ubayda ibn Farwa that her maternal aunt\nKabsha bint Kab ibn Malik, who was the wife of the son of Abu Qatada\nal-Ansari, told her that once Abu Qatada was visiting her and she\npoured out some water for him to do wudu with. Just then a cat came to\ndrink from it, so he tilted the vessel towards it to let it drink.\nKabsha continued, "He saw me looking at him and said, 'Are you\nsurprised, daughter of my brother?' I said, 'Yes.' He replied that the\nMessenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said,\ncats are not impure. They intermingle with you .' "\n\n\nYahya\nsaid that Malik said, "There is no harm in that unless one sees\nimpurities on the cat's mouth."\n\n \n\n \nYahya related to me from Malik from Nafi from Sulayman ibn\nYasarfrom Umm Salama, the wife of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and\ngrant him peace, that a certain woman in the time of the Messenger of\nAllah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, used to bleed\nprofusely, so Umm Salama consulted the Messenger of Allah, may Allah\nbless him and grant him peace, for her, and he said, "She should\ncalculate the number of nights and days a month that she used to\nmenstruate before it started happening, and she should leave off from\nprayerfor that much of the month. When she has completed that she\nshould do ghusl, bind her private parts with a cloth, and then pray."\n\n \n\n \nYahya related to me from Malik from Hisham ibn Urwa from his\nfather that A'isha, the wife of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and\ngrant him peace, said, "Fatima bint Abu Hubaysh said, 'Messenger of\nAllah, I never become pure - am I permitted to pray?' The Messenger of\nAllah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, 'That is a vein,\nnot menstruation. So when your period approaches, leave off from the\nprayer, and when its grip leaves, wash the blood from yourself and\npray.' "\n\n \n\n \nYahya related to me from Malik from Hisham ibn Urwa from his\nfather from Zaynab bint Abi Salama that Umm Salama, the wife of the\nProphet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Umm Salama,\nthe wife of Abu Talha al-Ansari, came to the Messenger of Allah, may\nAllah bless him and grant him peace, and said, 'Messenger of Allah!\nAllah is not ashamed of the truth-does a woman have to do ghusl if she\nhas had an erotic dream?' He said, 'Yes, if she sees any liquid.' "\n\n \n\n \nYahya related to me from Malik from Abu'n Nadr, the mawla of\nAbdullah ibn Ubaydullah, from Sulayman ibn Yasar from alMiqdad ibn al-\nAswad that Ali ibn Abi Talib told him to ask the Messenger of Allah,\nmay Allah bless him and grant him peace, what a man should do, who,\nwhen close to his wife, had a flow of prostatic fluid. Ali explained\nthat the daughter of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and\ngrant him peace, was living with him then and he was too shy to ask\nfor himself. Al-Miqdad said, "I asked the Messenger of Allah, may\nAllah bless him and grant him peace, about it, and he said, 'When you\nfind that, wash your genitals with water and do wudu as for prayer.' "\n\n \n\n \nYahya related to me from Malik from Hisham ibn Urwa from his\nfather fromYahyaibn Abd ar-Rahman ibn Ha ib that he had set off for\nMumra with Umar ibn al-Khattab in a party of riders, among whom was\nAmr ibn al-As. Umar ibn al-Khattab dismounted for a rest late at night\non a certain road near a certain oasis. Umar had a wet dream when it\nwas almost dawn and there was no water among the riding party. He rode\nuntil he came to some water and then he began to wash off what he saw\nof the semen until it had gone. Amr ibn al-As said to him, "It is\nmorning and there are clothes with us, so allow your garment to be\nwashed. ''Umar ibn al-Khattab said to him, "I am surprised at you, Amr\nibn al-As! Even if you could find clothes, would everybody be able to\nfind them? By Allah, if I were to do it, it would become a sunna. No,\nI wash what I see, and I sprinkle with water what I do not see."\n\n\nMalik spoke about a man who found traces of a wet dream on his\nclothes and did not know when it had occurred and did not remember\nanything he had seen in his sleep. He said, "Let the intention of his\nghusl be from the time when he last slept, and if he has prayed since\nthat last sleep he should repeat it. This is because often a man has a\nwet dream and sees nothing, and often he sees something but does not\nhave an emission. But, if he finds liquid on his garment he must do\nghusl. This is because Umar repeated what he had prayed after the time\nhe had last slept and not what was before it."\n\n \n\n \nYahya related to me from Malik from Rabia ibn Abi Abd ar-Rahman\nthat on one occasion A'isha, the wife of the Prophet, may Allah bless\nhim and grant him peace, was sleeping with the Messenger of Allah, may\nAllah bless him and grant him peace, in one garment, when suddenly she\njumped up sharply. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and\ngrant him peace, said to her, "What's the matter with you? Are you\nlosing blood?", meaning menstruating. She said, "Yes." He said, "Wrap\nyour waist-wrapper tightly about you, and return to your sleeping-\nplace."\n\n \n\n \nYahya related to me from Malik from Hisham ibn Urwa from his\nfather from Humran, the mawla of Uthman ibn Affan, that Uthman ibn\nAffan was once sitting on the Maqaid (the benches surrounding the\nMadina Mosque, or else a stone near Uthman ibn Affan's house where he\nsat to discuss with people), when the muadhdhin came and told him that\nit was time for the asr prayer. He called for water and did wudu. Then\nhe said, "By Allah, I shall tell you something which I would not tell\nyou if it were not in the Book of Allah. I heard the Messenger of\nAllah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say, 'If a man does\nwudu, and makes sure he does it correctly, and then does the prayer,\nhe will be forgiven everything that he does between then and the time\nwhen he prays the next prayer.' "\n\n\nYahya said that Malik said,\n"I believe he meant this ayat - 'Establish prayer at the two ends of\nthe day and in some watches of the night. Good actions take away wrong\nactions.
